Immigration laws allow U.S. citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their spouses for immigration to the United States. Citizens can also petition for fiancé (K-1) visas for their foreign-born fiancés.

V Permanent Resident Spouse Nonimmigrant visa for spouse of U.S. permanent resident to come to the United States while waiting for adjudication of an immigrant visa petition. See below.

The availability of the V visa has practically expired. To apply for this visa, the underlying petition must have been filed on or before December 21, 2000.
